Goals
The Art of Living is a humaritarian NGO (Non-Governmental Organisation), educational and non-profit organization dedicated to stress management and service initiatives for the common good. Founded in 1981 by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the organization works in 151 countries.
The activities are guided by the philosophical and peaceful guidelines by Sri Sri: "Until we have a society without stress and violence, we can not achieve world peace." To guide individuals to inner peace, The Art of Living offers courses and programs to eliminate stress through powerful breathing techniques, meditation and yoga. These programs have helped millions around the world to overcome stress, depression and violent tendencies.
The Art of Living has spread peace to various communities through various humaritarian projects, including: conflict resolution, relief in areas of natural disaster, sustainable development projects, women's empowerment, reabilitation of people deprived of their liberty, education programs. environmental programs.
Sister organizations
The Art of Living has several sister organizations that are dedicated to setting the vision of a world without stress and violence. The International Association fot Human Values (IAHV), Ved Vignan Maha Vidya Peeth (VVMVP), Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Vidya Mandir (SSRSVM), Vikas Kendra India Vyakti (VVKI), among others, that formulate and implement humaritarian projects from Art of Living.
Organizational Structure
The Art of Living is one of the biggest multifaceted organization in the world and is based on volunteer work. Headquartered in Bangalore, India. Overall, the Organization operates as the International Foundation of Art of Living, which began in 1989 in the United States and Germany. Since then, hundreds of local centers were established around the world.
The organizational structure is a steering committee with membership for a term of two years fot its members. All instructors of the foundation and former members are eligible to be nominated in the new committee which is renewed every two years. There are provisions for a board that monitors and guides the organization. All accounts are audited regularly by an external auditor. Except for per diem and expenses, no member receives benefits in the form of wages, etc. Wellness programs of The Art of Living funded humaritarian activities. Profits from sales of publications and Ayurveda products are also used in our social initiatives.
